September 13, 2024: Multiple image contest winners!
Congrats to both Grace and Daniel for winning the 2024 VINSE Image competition! While fabricating their neural interfaces, they take beautiful pictures along the way. See more images of our work here.
August 20, 2024: Hailey joins the lab!
We’re so excited to have Hailey join the lab as a PhD student! She comes to us with a BS in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from Yale and a wide range of experiences in animal research. She will play a critical role in getting our work in neural circuits up an running. Welcome Hailey!
August 3, 2024: Summer pool party
We celebrated the end of a fun and productive summer and said goodbye to Thaissa. We hope she comes back soon!
August 1, 2024: Thai presents her summer research
Thai presented her fantastic summer research. She characterized a material called indium-tin oxide for achieving cellular-scale, fully transparent electrodes on polymer-based neural probes. Great work!!
July 22, 2024: Grace inducted as cleanroom superuser
Congrats to Grace, who has joined the VINSE cleanroom team of superusers! This designation means she has shown significant expertise in microfabrication and will support full-time cleanroom staff by training new users, troubleshooting equipment, and developing new fabrication processes.
May 28, 2024: Thai joins for the summer!
We’re super excited to have Thaissa join the lab for summer through the Vanderbilt School of Engineering Summer Research Program! Thai joins us from Johns Hopkins University and has a strong background in electrical engineering. She will be working towards characterizing the optical, mechanical, and electrical properties of our transparent, flexible neural probes.
May 21, 2024: Lab Move-In
Lab construction complete! We’re moving in and setting up. We’re excited to get our electrophysiology and imaging rigs installed over the summer.
May 1, 2024: Welcome Daniel Woods!
We’re super excited to have Daniel Woods join as the lab’s second PhD student! Daniel is a native Tennessean and received both a BS and Masters in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He will be co-advised by Christos Constantinidis and help establish our first major collaboration as we expand our technologies from rodents to non-human primates.
March 20, 2024: Grampa Robinson visits the lab!
Prof. Jacob Robinson (Daniel’s PhD advisor) visited for a seminar at the Vanderbilt Institute for Nanoscience and Engineering. The whole team enjoyed a chance to tour our new lab space and meet their academic grandpa.
February 28, 2024: Camila joins the lab!
We’re so excited to welcome Camila Romero to the lab as our first research technician! Camila earned her BS in Neuroscience from West Virginia University. She has an extensive neuroscience skillset that will hugely benefit multiple projects, but will also aid in the lab’s microfabrication efforts. Welcome Camila!
February 1, 2024: Jenna and Runda join!
Jenna and Runda join as the lab’s first undergraduate researchers. They are bringing their backgrounds in cognitive neuroscience and computer science to understand the role of predictive coding during neuroprosthetic tasks.
